"FROZAN"

TODAY’S MOVIE

“FROZEN”

Though it is a little too late, I watched “Frozen” on May 1st. I watched it in Japanese subtitles. As you know, “Frozen” is a movie which is very popular all over the world.

This time, I will focus on not the story but the theme song of the movie: “Let It Go”. This song was sung by Idina Menzel, who was the voice actress of Elsa in the movie. Idina Menzel wan a lot of awards. For example, when she acted a heroine (Elphaba) of “Wiched”, she won Tony Award for Best Actress in the Musical, 2003. You may remember that she appeared on the TV play “Glee”. When I saw her at first on “glee”, I was impressed by her skill as a singer.

On the other hands, Demi Lovato sings “Let It Go” at the end of the movie. I LOVE DEMI LOVATO!! Her song is very powerful. Her famous songs are “Skyscraper”, “Heart Attack” and so on. It is not too much to say that she is one of the excellent talented singers in the world.

I love both of them. On balance, however, Demi’s “Let It Go” is better than that of Idina.
Which do you like better, Idina Menzel or Demi Lovato, as the singer of “Let It Go”?

"IT"

TODAY’S MOVIE

““IT””

“IT” (1990) is a TV film based on a novel written by Stephen King. He is a famous horror writer. Most of his novels were made into movies such as “Carrie” (1976), “The Shining” (1980), “Stand by Me” (1986), “Misery” (1990), “The Shawshank Redemption” (1994) and “Hearts in Atlantis” (2001). I love all of his stories. I think “Misery” is the best.

“IT” is one of my favorite movies. But this TV film is not as known as the above. The story describes the friendship of the seven bullied children who fights against the old monster lurking in their town (Derry, Maine). The history of the monster goes back to centuries ago. The monster’s name is Pennywise, who is called ‘IT’ too. Only children can see him. He lives in the sewer and feeds on people’s fear. In most of cases, he prays on children.

When I was 9 years old, I watched “IT” on TV for the first time. I was impressed by the character of Pennywise. The film is about three hours, but I have watched it again and again. So I can repeat some of the words even now.

The film consists of two parts: the childhood and the present time of the seven children. To be honest, I think the latter half is a little boring. But I would really like you to watch it even once. Perhaps you will fall a victim of Pennywise like me. Be careful when you see a balloon in the air...!!

"Jesus Christ Superstar"

TODAY’S MUSICASL
““Jesus Christ Superstar””

“Jesus Christ Superstar” was put mainly on the stage of Broadway. And its movie version was also made in 1973 and 2000. I watched its movie version of 2000 on DVD. The story of the movie is exactly the same as that of the stage version. This is one of my favorite movies. The movie describes the seven days until the execution of Jesus, and at the same time, describes the suffering of Judas who betrays Jesus.
All of this movie’s songs are very famous, especially, “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” and “Superstar”. Of course, I love them very much. “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” is a beautiful emotional love song, and on the other hand, “Superstar” is a powerful up-tempo song. But the song that I love most is “This Jesus Must Die”. Though its title is very serious, crazy and cruel, it seems to me that it is a funny song. This song is sung when the Jewish high priest Caiaphas and those close to him decide to execute Jesus. In spite of the serious scene, the words of the song are comical and its melody is rhythmical.
The story of the movie is suggestive. It gives an opportunity to think about Jesus to even those who are not interested in Christianity and Christian culture. The composer of this musical, Andrew Lloyd Webber, is really great in the musical world.
